St. Louis, MO (Sports Network) - Rick Ankiel stroked a game-winning two-run single in the ninth and hit a solo home run in the sixth, as the St. Louis Cardinals got three runs in the ninth to beat the Chicago Cubs, 5-4, in the middle contest of a three game set at Busch Stadium. Adam Kennedy was 2-for-4 with an RBI double and a run scored in the ninth and Albert Pujols was 2- for-3 with a walk and a run scored for the Cardinals, who halted a two-game skid. The Cards three-run ninth made a winner of Kyle McClellan (1-3), who tossed two scoreless innings. Aramis Ramirez hit a two-run homer and Mark DeRosa had a solo home run and tripled, scoring twice. Ryan Theriot added an RBI single for the Cubs, who have dropped two of three. Kerry Wood (4-2) entered in the ninth and walked both Ryan Ludwick and Yadier Molina to start the inning. Kennedy then doubled down the right field line, scoring one before an intentional walk to Chris Duncan loaded the bases. Skip Schumaker grounded into a force out at home and pinch-hitter Aaron Miles popped to short for the second out but Ankiel lined a two-run single to center for the game-winner.

Milwaukee, WI (Sports Network) - Prince Fielder's RBI single in the bottom of the ninth lifted the Milwaukee Brewers to a 2-1 win over Pittsburgh in the second of three games with the Pirates. Tyler Yates took the mound for Pittsburgh going into the home ninth, and gave up a walk to Rickie Weeks to lead off. J.J. Hardy then popped up a bunt, but it fell in front of the mound to advance Weeks to second. After Yates intentionally walked Ryan Braun, Fielder laced a single to shallow left-center field to plate Weeks and end the game. Yates (3-2) took the loss for Pittsburgh, while Eric Gagne (2-2) got the win for tossing a scoreless top of the ninth. Gagne came off the disabled list on June 29.

Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Damion Easley went 3-for-5 and knocked in a run, while Brian Schneider's two-run, pinch-hit double in the eighth inning proved to be the difference as the New York Mets rolled past Philadelphia, 9-4, in the second of four games with the Phillies. Jose Reyes and Carlos Delgado each went 2-for-5 for the Mets, who won for the third time in their last five games. David Wright doubled, while Marlon Anderson and Endy Chavez knocked in a run apiece. Pedro Feliciano (1-2) earned the win despite recording just one out in relief of John Maine, who allowed three runs on just one hit in 5 2/3 innings before exiting early with an apparent forearm injury. Ryan Howard belted a three-run homer for the Phillies, who had a four-game win streak snapped. The Phillies were outhit 14-4 for the game. J.C. Romero (4-2) allowed two runs in one-third of an inning to take the loss behind Jamie Moyer, who held the Mets to three runs on seven hits in 6 2/3 frames.

Cincinnati, OH (Sports Network) - Jerry Hairston Jr. singled to start the ninth, stole second, and scored the winning run on a Brandon Phillips single, as the Cincinnati Reds edged the Washington Nationals, 3-2, in the third installment of a four-game series at Great American Ball Park. Hairston was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and Phillips had two hits and two runs batted in. Paul Bako gave the Reds an abbreviated lead with an RBI single in the eighth for Cincinnati, which has taken the first three games of the series. Francisco Cordero (4-1) was handed the win, despite his fourth blown save of the season, having allowed a run on one hit and a walk in the ninth. Reds starter Josh Fogg, just off the disabled list, tossed six innings of one- run ball on six hits in taking Aaron Harang's spot in the rotation. Harang had to be skipped after experiencing stiffness in his right forearm. Nationals starter Tim Redding equaled Fogg with six innings of one-run ball but on eight hits. Redding helped himself with an RBI single in recording his ninth straight no-decision. Jesus Flores tied the game with a sacrifice fly in the road ninth to record the other RBI for Washington, which has dropped four straight and five of six overall. Joel Hanrahan (5-3) was handed the loss.

Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - Mark Loretta finished 3-for-4 with three doubles and four RBI as Houston pounded Atlanta, 6-1, in the middle contest of a three-game set at Turner Field. Carlos Lee and Miguel Tejada knocked in the other runs for the Astros, who snapped a four-game losing streak. Chris Sampson (4-3), who predominantly works out of the bullpen, limited Atlanta to two hits and one run over five innings in his first start since May 25. Brian McCann homered for the Braves, who have dropped six of seven. Jo-Jo Reyes (3-7) lost for the third consecutive start. He was charged with six hits and four runs, all earned, in just 4 1/3 frames.

Chris Iannetta belted a two-run homer, while Joe Koshansky smashed his first career homer, a solo shot in his first at-bat of the season. Ryan Spilborghs doubled twice and scored three runs. Jorge De La Rosa (3-4) allowed three runs on six hits in five-plus innings to pick up the win. Cody Ross went 3-for-5 with a home run and four runs batted in for the Marlins, losers of three straight and four of their last five. Matt Treanor and Robert Andino knocked in a run apiece, while Mike Jacobs had two hits and scored twice. Ryan Tucker (2-3) dropped the decision after being torched for eight runs on seven hits in four innings.

Peavy (6-5) showcased his All-Star form by scattering three hits -- all doubles -- and two walks, while striking out six in seven shutout innings for the Padres, winners of back-to-back affairs for the first time since June 11-12. Adrian Gonzalez added a solo home run and Trevor Hoffman recorded his 16th save of the season with a shaky ninth. Doug Davis (3-4) was saddled with the loss despite giving up just three runs on seven hits to go with seven strikeouts in eight solid innings for Arizona, which has lost four of five. Orlando Hudson finished with two doubles and an RBI, and Stephen Drew hit a solo long ball in defeat.

Zito (4-12) got the win for giving up two runs on six hits with a walk and a season-high 10 strikeouts for the Giants, who have won five of their last eight. Bengie Molina drove in a pair of runs while Ray Durham scored twice in the win. Andre Ethier and Andruw Jones each drove in a run for the Dodgers, who had a four-game win streak snapped. Chan Ho Park started on the mound and was charged with just one run on four hits with three walks and seven strikeouts over six innings. Brian Falkenborg (0-1) was saddled with the loss for giving up three runs.

Bronx, NY (Sports Network) - Mike Mussina hurled six scoreless innings, and New York survived a late scare to clip Boston, 2-1, in the third installment of a four-game series from Yankee Stadium. Mussina (11-6) allowed four hits in his outing, striking out five and walking one to record his first win since June 14. Mariano Rivera allowed two hits and a run in the ninth but held on to record his 23rd save. Melky Cabrera and Brett Gardner had an RBI each for the Yankees, who won for the second time in their last seven. Justin Masterson (4-3) took the loss, his third in the last five starts. He surrendered six hits and two runs over six full frames and also hit three batters. Mike Lowell drove in a run while Manny Ramirez was hit by a pitch three times for the Red Sox, who have dropped six of eight.

Sonnanstine (10-3) scattered just five hits, walked one and struck out two for Tampa Bay, which has won six in a row. Sonnanstine has won two straight starts and four consecutive decisions. Akinori Iwamura doubled and drove in two runs for the Rays, who now lead the American League East division by four games over Boston, which lost earlier Saturday to the Yankees. Tampa Bay holds a nine- game lead over New York. Zack Greinke (7-5) took the loss despite a solid start, as he gave up two runs on seven hits in six innings, while striking out seven. Mark Grudzielanek had two hits for the Royals, who went without an extra-base hit. Kansas City has lost two in a row and six of eight.

Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Nick Swisher, Brian Anderson and Alexi Ramirez each homered to back a terrific effort on the mound from Gavin Floyd, as the Chicago White Sox downed the Oakland Athletics, 6-1, in the third meeting of a four-game series. Floyd (10-4) scattered three hits and three walks in 7 1/3 shutout innings for the White Sox, whose pitching staff allowed a season- high 17 hits in a 7-1 loss on Friday. The surprising righty fanned six but couldn't finish off his masterpiece due to a high pitch count. Orlando Cabrera was 2-for-4 with two RBI, as Chicago improved to 8-2 in its last 10 games. Greg Smith (5-7) walked six and was charged with four runs on five hits in five-plus innings of work for Oakland, which has split its last six games. Wes Bankston and Ryan Sweeney accounted for the Athletics' four hits with two apiece, with Sweeney spoiling the shutout bid with a solo homer in the ninth.

Miguel Cairo scored the other run while Miguel Batista (4-10) got the win for pitching two scoreless innings of relief for the Mariners, who have won four of their last five. RA Dickey started on the mound and gave up two runs on four hits with five walks and three strikeouts in six innings of work. Miguel Cabrera and Carlos Guillen each hit solo home runs for the Tigers, who have dropped four of their last five. Fernando Rodney (0-2) was handed the loss and Armando Galarraga gave up one run on five hits in six innings of action.
