Old Fashioned Pie Social For Candidates & Public

Cheyenne (LWV) -- The League of Women Voters will serve up pie, lemonade and political “stump” speeches in an old-fashioned pie social where the public can get a taste of candidates and their messages during this election season.

The pie social is 5:30-8 p.m. July 31 in the Cottonwood Room of the Laramie County Library. Everyone is welcome to listen to brief speeches by the candidates. Then the public will have a chance for a one-on-one conversation with the people who want their votes on Election Day.  All candidates on the ballot in Laramie County are invited to come or send a representative.

The primary election is Aug. 19, and the general election is Nov. 4.

The League of Women Voters of Cheyenne will have maps to help people figure out where they are supposed to vote and who the candidates are for their legislative districts and Cheyenne City Council wards.

“What a great opportunity for people to talk directly to the candidates and get the information they need to decide how to vote,” said Marguerite Herman, LWV-Cheyenne president. “Pie really turns this into a ‘social,’ and the library is a perfect place to bring candidates and county residents together.”

LWV also will sponsor forums for candidates who face primary opponents. They will be at the Cheyenne City Council chambers in the municipal building, 2101 O’Neil Ave.

  • June 30 – Laramie County Commission and Mayor, 6-8 p.m.
  • Aug. 5 – Cheyenne City Council, 5-8 p.m.
  • Aug. 6 – Legislative House Districts 7, 9 & 10, 6-8 p.m.
  • Aug. 7 – Legislative House Districts 41 & 44, 6-8 p.m.

The League of Women Voters is a non-partisan, political organization that encourages informed and active participation in government. LWV also works to increase understanding of major public policy issues and influences public policy through education and advocacy. Membership is open to anyone old enough to vote.
